Musical director Kris Rawlinson has taken on the not insignificant challenge of pulling the plug on the West End. His project West End Switched Off is a series of concerts and recordings of acoustic arrangements for some of our most loved musical theatre songs. Currently working through the recordings for this project, Kris came to Resident to record on our fantastic Yamaha C3 grand piano and returned this week with a string quartet poised for a good long day in the studio.
Engineer Simon Small has been working with Kris and the guest musicians (which include Ed Taylor, Hayley Pope, Izzy Jones and Natalie Hancock for the strings recordings) on the recording at Resident which are sounding stunning already. Taking full advantage of the stunning acoustics in Studio 1 Simon was able to close mic each instrument and balance it with 3 well positioned room mics to give a rich, full texture to the recordings. There’s more to be done here but we’re looking to finishing up work on these recordings and having the final mixes mastered and released for all to hear.
