We’ve had experience with almost every type of recording going in our long history. From voiceovers and didgeridoo samples to orchestra’s and metal bands, so for engineer John Martin, last week’s session with the exceptionally talented Annalie Wilson is nothing technically new. Annalie is here with her musicians to record mix and master a new track comprising cajon, acoustic guitar, bass, percussion, piano and vocals so making use of the Studio 1 live room as well as Studio A’s live room to get a fantastic live recording while achieving maximum acoustic separation.
With live recordings there is always a careful balance to be had between the need for acoustic separation of the instruments and capturing the live energy and feeling that’s possible only with everyone performing in the same room as one another. In this case the musicians are fantastic and well versed in a separated recording environment so John’s been able to get the separation needed for an incredible sounding recording without compromising performance.
This song builds on Annalie’s growing back catalogue of wonderfully constructed upbeat, singer songwriter tracks which you can hear on her Bandcamp page as well as a few excellent videos on youtube. Last weeks session is her first with Resident Studios; other tracks have been put together between a variety of studios from London to Krakow so with John at the helm and our wonderful live room and Yamaha C3 grand piano we’re happy to be a part of a growing collection of great recordings for Annalie.
