They’ve been rehearsing at Resident Studios for months to get set for festival season and today is the lastfor Gypsy Hill before embarking on a summer of festival shows from Glastonbury this weekend to Green Man and Bestival in August.
Live, the band are an 8 piece beats and brass extravaganza with big screen visuals and dancers also thrown into the mix and they’ve been making full use of Studio 1, our largest live room to get set for the summer. Off stage and out of rehearsals the group are the brainchild of 2 London DJ’s/producers – DJ Kobayashi and Herbert Newbert who bring together the balls and the brass from the Balkans, surf-rock Mediterranean guitar lines, Arabic & Jewish melodies, driving bass-lines and a whole heap of electronics, scratching and beats. It sounds like quite the melding of influences but as you can hear (below), it works perfectly. The group shot this video of them performing lead track Blakan Beast from the EP of the same name which is out now.
